I don’t know how to play DSD files with HF Player. How do I transfer DSD files?

The iTunes sync function does not support DSD file transfer. To load DSD files into HF Player, first connect your device to an iTunes-equipped PC. Next, click on your device in the iTunes menu and select HF Player in the app menu. Drag and drop your DSD files into the HF Player document area. The files are transferred to your device automatically. After you’ve completed this operation, sync HF Player with the files by pressing the sync button located on the HF Player’s app setting screen. If the automatic sync function is on (the default position), this step is performed automatically.

Which iOS devices are supported? Can I play DSD on my iPad mini?

The app is compatible with iPhone 3GS or later, iPad 2 or later, iPod touch 4th generation or later, and iPad mini. Native DSD playback requires a DoP-compatible DAC and an Apple Camera Connection Kit (Lightning to USB camera adapter).
* Lightning-USB camera adaptor is not required when connecting some external devices such as the Onkyo DAC-HA300.

When transferring audio files from Mac to my device using AirDrop, HF Player is not displayed on the list of compatible apps.
If your device is compatible with many apps, HF Player may not be displayed on the list. Please reduce the number of apps by deleting unused apps.

I have changed devices. How do I transfer my files to my new device?
To add MP3, AAC, MPEG-4, AIFF, WAV, or ALAC files to your device’s iPod library (which HF Player automatically accesses), sync with an iTunes-equipped PC. To add other audio file formats (such as high-resolution FLAC and WAV) to HF Player’s HD library, follow these steps. First, connect your device to an iTunes-equipped PC. Next, select your device in the iTunes menu and select HF Player in the app menu. Then drag and drop your desired files into the HF Player document area. The files will be transferred to your device automatically. After you’ve completed this operation, sync HF Player with the files by pressing the sync button located on the HF Player’s app setting screen. If the automatic sync function is on (the default position), this step is performed automatically.

Sometimes DSD audio playback is interrupted or cuts out. Why is that?

DSD playback puts a high demand on your device’s CPU. To facilitate smooth music delivery, we advise against making adjustments to the app during playback. We also suggest closing any other applications you’re running. For best results, we recommend using the app on iPhone 4S or later, iPad 2 or later, iPad mini, and iPod touch 5th generation or later.

When I play music in DoP mode, the equalizer doesn’t work. Why is that?
This is an intentional feature. When listening in DoP mode, the equalizer and crossfade functions are disabled and the frequency response is not displayed to help ensure stable performance.

What is the difference between Upsampling On and 48 kHz Mode?

The difference between these two modes is the available frequencies at which standard (44.1 kHz) audio can be sampled. In Upsampling On mode, the sampling rate goes up in integer multiples (e.g. 44.1 kHz is upsampled to 88.2 kHz or 176.4 kHz). In 48 kHz Mode, the sampling rate goes up in integer multiples of 48 (e.g. 44.1 kHz is upsampled to 48 kHz, 96 kHz, or 192 kHz). In both modes, the highest sampling rate supported by the connected audio processing device (such as a DAC) is automatically selected. For example, the Onkyo DAC-1000 is designed to support sampling rates of 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz, 96 kHz, and 192 kHz via the USB input, so when connected to an iOS device running HF Player in Upsampling On mode, audio is output from the iOS device at a maximum of 44.1 kHz. However, in 48 kHz Mode, the audio is upsampled and output at 192 kHz. Note that an Apple Camera Connection Kit (Lightning to USB adapter) is required when connecting your iOS device to an external DAC. When listening to audio via your iOS device’s headphone jack, the sampling rate is capped at 48 kHz (the maximum supported via the headphone output on iOS devices).

Why can’t I edit the playlists I made in the iOS Music app?

You can, however, create, save, and edit your own playlists within the HF Player app. To learn more about this, see “How do I create, save, and access a playlist?” in this FAQ.
